
Axel Dahlgren, son of Olof & Helena Dahlgren, was born on September 9, 1886, in Norra Transtrand, Dahlby Parish, Värmland, Sweden. In 1890, at the age of three, he left Sweden with his mother and two brothers to meet up with his father who had migrated to America the previous year. The family united in Minnesota, ending up in Roseau County in 1891. He is listed with other family members in the 1895, 1900, 1905, and 1910 census records in Malung, Roseau County, Minnesota.



He married Edith Elisabeth Petterson (born December 7, 1891) on June 16, 1912 in Roseau, Minnesota. Five children were born to the couple: Dora, born April 19, 1913; Anna, born September 2, 1914; Ralph, born July 11, 1920; Lillian, born December 8, 1921; Delbert, born August 21, 1925. (Ralph and Delbert each died as infants) Axel & Edith are listed in the 1920, 1930, and 1940 US Census records as residents of Malung Township in Roseau County. Axel was a farmer.






His 1917 US Draft Card and his 1942 US Draft Card reveal he was a self employed farmer, A tragic accident resulted in the loss of one of Axel’s arms, changing his lifestyle dramatically. The 1950 US Census shows that he and Edith were living in the town of Roseau, Minnesota, and his occupation was listed as a house painter.

Axel died on June 6, 1978, in Roseau, Minnesota. Edith died on January 2, 1979, in Roseau, Minnesota. Burial for each of them was at the Salem Cemetery in Malung.
