An excerpt from Mildred’s obituary.

Mildred Trochmann passed away on September 18, 2020 at the Viking Manor in Ulen, MN at the age of 93.

Mildred was born on May 7, 1927, the daughter of Helmer & Minnie Eastvold of rural Borup, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm and attended a country grade-school, then later went to high school in Borup. Following graduation, she moved to Moorhead, MN and completed two years at Concordia College. She met her husband, Raymond Trochmann, that summer while she was living and working in Minneapolis. They met at a chapel service at the Gateway Gospel mission where both of them were volunteering, and “it was love at first sight!” Mildred and Raymond were married on November 27, 1948 in Jevnaker Lutheran Church near Borup, MN. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until 1956 when they bought a farmstead next to Mildred’s parents in rural Borup. They moved their family of four children to the Red River Valley and started farming. A few years later, they added another daughter to their family. The Trochmanns enjoyed many years of grain and dairy farming until they retired in 1997. That fall, they moved to Twin Valley where they lived for 12 years, until moving to Northern Lights Assisted Living in Ulen, MN.

Mildred enjoyed cooking and baking. There was always fresh baked bread and cookies on hand for anyone to stay for ‘a little lunch’! She was a gracious hostess and ever ready to entertain and feed the many who came to her home. She was an avid gardener and spent her summers canning and freezing her produce. Her hands were never idle as she sewed, knitted and crocheted during the long winter months. She was also an avid reader and loved to do puzzles.  Later in life, she demonstrated what a talented artist she was when she learned Rosemåling, thereby leaving many lovely souvenirs of her artistry to family and friends. Mildred loved to travel, and was blessed to have children who lived in several different states so she was able to visit many areas of the country. She even traveled internationally to Norway and Africa. She loved her family and she loved babies. Her children have always said that she looked the happiest when she had a little one in her arms. She also served as a volunteer at the Twin Valley Home for many years. Mildred loved her Lord and was a life-long member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church and also an active member of the Gideons’ Auxiliary.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband and her son Ronald, her parents, three brothers and a sister. She is survived by one sister, her four children, ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
