Anders Kristensen Grensbråten (1831 – 1909) and Anna Tollefsdatter Veteren (1833 – 1882) were married on January 7, 1855 in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway.
In Volume IV, Farm and Family, of the Krødsherad Bygdebok (a village book), Anders and Anne are listed as the first people to live on a plot of land named Grensbråtan. It was a small husmansplass (tenant farm), located in the Komnune (community) of Krødsherad, which is in the Fylke (county) of Buskerud, in the country of Norway. Anders was a liveryman. It is likely that he worked for the owner of a larger farm named Gren. At that time in Norway, employees were often given a small plot of land by their employer/landowner that they could develop and live on.
Their children were Christen (1855-1921), Tollef (1857-????), Marie (1859-1938), Guri (1863-1920), Anne (1864-1967), Anne (1867-????), Anne (1869-1943), Tollev (1872-1947), and Elling (1878-1878).
Marie remained at Grensbråtan and her husband, Elling Aslesen Haugen became the owner of the place, and his name then became Elling Aslesen Grensbråten.
Guri emigrated to American in November, 1885, and married Ole Hilde in December 1885. They lived in Clay County Minnesota.
Anne and Tollev emigrated together in 1892. She married Lauritz Dahl, in November 1892 and he eventually became known as Lewis Dahl.
Tollev’s name became Tollef Green. He married Barbara Halgrimson Hagen in 1901, and they lived in Clay County, Minnesota.
