
Jerome Selmer Rage was born June 2, 1931 in Ada, Minnesota, the son of Selmer and Emma (Dahl) Rage. He is listed with his parents and brother, Vernon, on census records from 1940 and 1950, living in McDonaldsville Township, Norman County, Minnesota.



During the Korean War, Jerome was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served for two years.
On June 9, 1956 he married Betty S. Freestad of Halstad, Minnesota. MOMS (Minnesota Official Marriage System) lists their Norman County Marriage Certificate number as 14-620 and confirms the date of their marriage. To this union two daughter were born.


On January 21, 1963 Jerome married Vera Cleo Remore. The Minnesota Marriage Index confirms this marriage date for the couple, and the MOMS (Minnesota Offical Marriage System) also lists their Marriage Certificate Number as 0052-325. This union was blessed with one daughter.
On August 21, 1980 Jerome married Una V. Burch in Cass County. The MOMS (Minnesota Offical Marriage System) also lists their Marriage Certificate Number as 0068-047 and confirms their names and Marriage Date.

Jerome died January 24, 2000 in Fargo, North Dakota, of complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) at the age of 68.
Excerpts from obituary Jerome Selmer Rage was born to Selmer and Emma (Dahl) Rage on June 2, 1931 in Ada, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Ada. Jerome attended elementary school and high school in Ada where he enjoyed football and track. Jerome and his only brother, Vernon, had a log of fun together growing up. They swam in the crick often and attended many family reunions. Jerome and Vernon had a great time putting together Luther League programs. They would also “ski” behind the Model A during the winter. Jerome helped Selmer on the family farm with dairy cow and various crops. He also worked for various neighbors. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army where he served in the Korean War for two years. He married Betty Freestad in 1956. They had two daughters . They later separated. He then married Vera Remore. They had one daughter. They later divorced. In 1980, he married Una Burch. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo, the Fargo Eagles Club, and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7564 in West Fargo. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Jerome retired in 1996 from F & C Supply and Heavy Duty Friction Service Center both in Fargo. Jerome contracted Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1996 and died of it’s complications on January 24, 2000 at the age of sixty-eight. Jerome is survived by his wife; three daughters, nine grandchildren and three great-grand children. |
