Their first child, a son, Donald Jay Mott, was born August 19, 1953. A dughter, Deborah Jean Mott, was born November 14, 1954.

Below are excerpts from their obituaries.

Donald J. Mott, 90, of Kingsford, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30th at his home.

Don was born June 20, 1930 in Rochester, Minnesota, son of the late Elmer and Medora (Kaiserlik) Mott. He was a 1948 graduate of Shawano High School. Don joined the United States Army during the Korean War and was trained as a Combat Medic. He served as a medic with the Army in Panama taking care of Psychiatric patients and was honorably discharged in 1953. Don married Helen Eastvold on August 16, 1952. While raising their eight children, He worked as a LVN for the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center and later, many years as a clerk for the United States Postal Service.

Don was an active member of the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain and participated in the Singing Strings and the Church Choir. Don and Helen also acted as Foster Parents for many years. He was a talented handyman and could fix anything. Don also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen on November 24, 2017, his daughter, Deborah Anderson; four brothers, Robert, George, Richard and Willard Mott; his son in law, David McDowell.

Don is survived by his two sons, four daughters, twenty three grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, one son-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen M. Mott, 87, of Kingsford, went to be with her Savior on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at Freeman’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born on July 1, 1930 in Borup, MN, the daughter of the late Helmer and Minnie (Dahl) Eastvold.

Helen was a Registered Nurse. She worked as an Obstetrics Nurse at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and as the school nurse for Iron Mountain Public Schools.

She married Donald Mott on August 16, 1952 in Minnesota. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.

Helen was a member of the First Covenant Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. For over fifty years she sang with the Singing Strings. She was a member of the Covenant Women; and enjoyed knitting and gardening.

She is survived by her husband Donald, three sons, four daughters, one son-in-law, twenty four grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, her cat Daisy and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Debbie Anderson and three brothers John, Harold, and Clifford Eastvold.
